Need some advise about 38 super and 9mm largo please...
I was told that the Spanish Destroyer Carbines will shoot 38 supers as well as their intended caliber, 9mm largo (and other names like 9mm bergman (sp)). well IF that is true, will the Star model A 1911 style 9mm largo hand guns shoot the 38 super as well. I have BOTH of these guns as well as a 38 super. I am going to sell my carbine and my Star mosel A probably BUT I have a BUNC of 9mm largo ammo. My question is this, actually 3 questions.
1. Can you actually shoot 38 super through the carbine rifle?
2. IF you can shoot 38 super through teh carbine, can you shoot 38 super in teh Star model A 1911 as well?
3. IF 1.&2. are a yes you can, then vice-versa, can you shoot 9mm largo through a 1911 chambered for 38 super?
Yes I know I am difficult BUT am wanting to get my gun collection down to 100 guns ONLY and I am cutting out a lot of odder calibers. I ahve a lot of ammo so IF it can be shot in a gun I plan on kleeping, I will keep the ammo but if not I will sell it.
I appreciate ANY advice or answers. Also thanks for any advice in advance.
It's my personal opinion that the 38 Super is too hot for the Destroyer
The use of cartridges that produce too much chamber pressure is also discouraged. Yes, the .38 Super and 9x23mm Winchester will chamber in most 9mm Largo firearms, and if they will chamber they will fire. The metallurgy and design of the Destroyer Carbine was not developed to handle the pressure of these rounds. Use of these type cartridges in the Destroyer Carbine risks damage to the carbine and possibly yourself through a ruptured chamber and/or bolt lug failure.
I would not use the 38 Super in the guns made for the Largo. You can probably shoot the Largo in the 38 Super, but you may have to go to a lighter recoil spring. I load for my Astra 400 using 38 super cases, it is also suppose to use 9mm Largo. I would think that who ever you sell the 38 Largo guns to, would be interested in buying the Largo ammo.
