Need W231 data for 44 special cast bullet loads
I've been shooting Universal Clays under a cast 200gr rnfp bullet in my triplelock. I'm having trouble with kernels of unburned powder getting in the works and gumming things up. Being it's now a hundred year old gun, I'd rather not crank the pressure up to cure this.
I have about half a pound of W231 sitting here and can't find my winchester data sheet. Anybody out there got some cowboy action data using a cast 200 grainer and W231?
I can live with 231's soot.
I'd apreciate you looking.
I would try 6 gr of 231. I don't think it is a good choice as it doesn't fill the case and may be eratic. I also have a 44 S&W triple lock. My normal load for it is a 255 gr Keith lead swc with 6.5 gr of Unique. I am going to try some Trail Boss the next time I load some. It is the best thing I have found for old pistols. I load 38 S&W with it for my S&W second model safety hammerless. I am also loading it for my 1st model handejector 32 S&W long. It is very bulky and fills the case with low pressures.
My Speer book says: for 44 special, 200 gr. bullet, powder 231
5.7grs. - 744 m vel.
6.2grs. - 806
