New Addition
I've had a few BP guns and rifles in the past. The biggest pain was CLEANING them! I know that soapy water is supposed to be easy but taking the rifle apart to dry the water and oil it, so the rest of it doesn't rust after you put it away, was a PAIN! I found what I think is an excellent solution. I have been eying the Encore series of rifles and the new Pro Hunter caught my eye. I didn't have any luck finding a used inexpensive one so I had to splurge. If you haven't read up on this beauty, it's worth investigating. The breech plug is removed by just rotating 90 degrees! The first inch or so of barrel, has no rifling so the sabot can be inserted easily and straight. The rod has a folding T to facilitate easier handling. For all of you that know what it's like to cock the hammer when you have a scope attached, the new hammer spur rotates left or right to make this task easier. It seems like a lot of thought went into this model and the fact that the barrel comes off the frame so cleaning is made simple, clinched my decision to acquire. I haven't had a chance to fire yet but I'm sure it'll be a tack driver. Normally when I hunt near home, I don't fuss what rifle I take. When hunting in areas that are once in a lifetime experiences though taking the best you can afford can mean the difference between a good experience and a great one. Here's my new girl. A scope will be added, with quick detachable Leupold rings.

Looks goos Wizard I really like that stock Dustin Thanks. The stock on these is a special recoil reducing "flex-stock". The thumbhole makes it point very easy.

try some triple 7 and a 265gr power belt bullet and use those new primers that are made just for muzzle loading rifles shoot then swab the bore with one wet patch (T/C #13 bore cleaner ) followed by a dry patch-- load and do it all again

I installed a hammer side extension on my encore but the new pro series is MUCH better, the hammer extension has a tendency to work loose especially on magnum loads. Try Triple 7 pellets and the new Power Belt projectiles in her. You will not be sorry. My encore is teh 209/45 and I use the triple 7 45/50 pellets with the 225 power belts. Every deer I ahve taken with it fell within 10 yards and one shot. A real nice 10 pointer in Ohio fell in it's tracks and I shot it at a distance of 40 yards. I like the Triple 7 45/50s using 2 pellets wwith the 225 grain power belts BUT have shot 3 pellets with the 245 grains. Has a bit of kick but at 200 yards, dead meat on the ground.
