Pheasant Hunting question
I want to try and hunt Pheasant tomorrow and discovered I only have 3 inch magnum shells with #4 shot.
That means I have to use my Remington 1100 Magnum with 30" barrel and Full Choke.
I wanted to use my Remington Wing-Master with 28" barrel and Modified choke that only takes 2 3/4 shells.
So here's my question.
Should I shoot the 3" shells I have with the 1100 or spend the $18 for 2 3/4 shells and #6 shot?
If you let the birds get out aways you'll be ok. In close snap shots and you won't have much bird left.
I have always used #5 or #6 for Pheasants 2 3/4 High Brass Full Choke.
I don't know if you can buy #5 any more. #4's were for ducks  But then I'm old
I just found a box of Remington Premier STS Light Target 2 3/4 shells in 7 1/2. I guess I could use those. I forgot I even had them.
If I had to buy some I was going to get #6 shot.
7 1/2 more lke a quail load, but you be ok but just don't try and reach out otherwise just feathers
MEC 650 Reloader......AA hulls....209 Win Primer.........19.1gr greendot.....AA Wad.......1 1/8 oz #5 shot = lots of pheasants.

Ron,
Stop by the house on your way to the hunt, I got shotgun ammo all over the place............

If your pheasant population is anything like ours, you don't need any shells.
#5 shot 2 3/4 magnum shells. Clean kills, no cripples :!: Most birds are shot in the back, as they fly away from you :!:
I guided hunters for several years, and buying cheap low power shells was always a problem. They would have a $1000. shotgun and a case of duck & pheasant shells from Federal.
Ammo is not the place to try and conserve money on your hunt.
When those old roosters get their winter feathers, you might as well shove those light loads up your ass for all the good they're gonna do.
Light loads work fine here Butch!!! The birds never make it thru the winter, the only birds here anymore are stocked and pen raised!!!
