Something not talked about much
I am gonna ask a question to everyone that isn't talked about much. Do you carry with one in the pipe, Or do you carry a full mag and a empty chamber.
What do ya'll think the pro's of your choice is;
What do ya'll think the negatives of your choice is;
For me I carry with one in the pipe. I think the main bonus of it is if you some how got your racking hand injured. And the other main pro is that it is ready in an instant. The negative to it is some folks don't feel safe carrying chambered. And if they don't feel comfortable they won't carry it at all
Discuss away :D

Good topic Dustin
I carry with one in the pipe any other way is sheer lunacy, I can't
imagine havin a CHL an not have it in battery what the use?
Law enforcement carry cocked n locked why be any different.
Ya know when the sh#t starts to fly the last thing on my mind is
gonna be racking the slide.

Since I carry a revolver, I guess this question doesn't apply to me.
I am really looking forward to the answers though. :D

Charlie, It can still apply to you. You can either be someone that carry's with the cylndier full or the cylndier minus-1 (Suicide Carry). That way to fire the first shot you have to pull the trigger twice

I carry cock & Locked ready to rock with the auto and the revolver a spare load or a spare mag. I also carry a range bag in the truck that has ammo for every caliber I own including shotguns. no I am not scared, I am just prepared 24/7 PLUS :wink:

What is to discuss? You carry condition 1 or you just tote extra baggage.

No kidding maybe we should carry empty and only load after a threat :rolflmao:

I still believe carrying chamber empty should be called suicide carry

Unless you have a old revolver that made before hammer blocks why not carry with all chamber loaded?
The Police Positive was the first for carrying fully loaded

I carry one in the chamber in my Kel-Tec P-40. With the 10# trigger pull, it is safe. When I carry a pistol, it must be safe with a round in the chamber. I carry my Glock 30 that way when I wear a holster. The only thing around the house that doesn't have a round in the chamber is my 37 Ithica that is stuck under my side of the bed. It has 4 rounds of #4 buck in the tube and is ready to shuck.

Even with modern revolvers some folks are scared to carry a full cylndier.

It really is the same thing as not carrying a semi-auto loaded. I personally believe if you wan't carry it loaded you might as well carry a brick. I have seen to many people try to rack the slide to chamber a round and the round jams going in and keeps the gun out of battery. At least with one in the pipe you can get one shot off.

For many years, I brought to the many gun shows that I attend and somethings stay overnight in the building as security, a 9mm Star Firestar M43 pistol.
I had this weapon in my travel/clothes bag in a leather holster, full magazine - empty chamber. Because the gun would move around and I did not always have "control" of the pistol, I want the chamber clear, just in case. I was going to have to retrieve the pistol first and unholster it, so racking the slide would also act as a deterent and a last call before the firing started.

When I was working I carried a 4516 with one in chamber. I had also deactivated the magazine safety because I sometimes leaned back against a wall and the mag release would get depressed. I wanted at least one round to fire in that case. I carriied a Glaser Safety Slug in chamber alternating with Black Talons in the magazine so that every second shot would have more penetration
