Surprise Package arrived
Got a package in the mail today from Charlie and Carol. Thanks. That is great. Someday maybe I can visit Gettysburg. I see in the book there is a monument to Mary Virginia Wade(Jenny) I don't know if you know the story about her but it goes like this. Jenny Wade, Jack Skelly and Wesley Culp grew up together as childhood friends. Wesley moved to Virginia and Jack and Jennie were engaged to be married. When war broke out Jack joined Union army and Wesley the Confederate army. Jack was badly wounded near Winchester Va and Wesley stopped to see him at the hospital just before Jack died. Jack gave Wesley a letter to take Jenny. It was never delivered because Wesley was killed at Gettysburg on his family farm at Culp's Hill. A stray bullet went thru the door of Jennie's kitchen and killed her during the battle. Hope you enjoy the reading materials. If you go to Gettysburg, you can go to Jenny's house and see where she was killed. The new visitor's center is great and I am not even a Civil War buff like some of you are. The presentation of the cyclorama (sp) in the new location is excellent.
